Philadelphia 76ers and Paul George Agree to 4-Year, $212M Contract - Seasports

The Philadelphia 76ers have reached an agreement with free-agent forward Paul George on a four-year, $212 million contract, sources familiar with the deal confirmed to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

The contract includes a player option for the 2027-28 season, Wojnarowski reported.

George, 34, spent the past five seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers, where he averaged 22.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game last season while shooting 47.1% from the field. He was acquired by the Clippers in a trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder, which included Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and multiple first-round picks.

A nine-time All-Star, George has maintained career averages of 20.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game, shooting 44% from the field and 38.5% from three-point range over his 14-year career.

The signing of George adds to Philadelphia’s busy offseason, which also saw the acquisition of Andre Drummond and Eric Gordon, as well as the re-signing of Kelly Oubre Jr. Leading up to the agreement with George, the 76ers had only three players under contract for the upcoming season.

Philadelphia, a championship contender at the start of the 2023-24 season, exited in the first round of the playoffs following a closely contested series against the New York Knicks. George joins former MVP Joel Embiid and rising star Tyrese Maxey to form a formidable trio for the 76ers.

Similar to Embiid, George has faced injury challenges in recent seasons, playing in more than 56 games only once during his tenure with the Clippers. Despite this, he has been selected to the All-Star Game in every season where he played at least 74 games.

The Orlando Magic had also expressed interest in acquiring George, a six-time All-NBA selection.
