Magnussen to Depart Haas at Season's End - Seasports

Formula 1 driver Kevin Magnussen will leave Haas Racing at the conclusion of the current season when his contract expires, the team announced on Thursday.

Magnussen, 31, is wrapping up his seventh season with the American team, having participated in 135 Grand Prix races over two periods, from 2017 to 2020 and from 2022 to 2024.

The Danish driver previously raced for McLaren and Renault, achieving a career-best ninth place in the drivers’ standings for Haas in 2018. He has accumulated five points this season.

Haas has yet to announce Magnussen’s replacement.

Magnussen expressed, “I’m proud to have raced for such a great team of people these last few years. While I’m looking forward to the next chapter of my racing career, I remain fully focused on giving everything I’ve got for the rest of 2024.”

Ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix, Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu stated his hope to “find a way to keep working together in some capacity.”

The announcement of Magnussen’s departure follows the signing of Oliver Bearman to a multiyear deal with Haas, starting in 2025. Bearman, a 19-year-old British driver, will take over the seat currently held by German driver Nico Hulkenberg. Hulkenberg is set to join Sauber at the end of this year, prior to its rebranding to Audi in 2026.
