Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is currently in discussions with Italian club Fiorentina regarding a potential return to professional football. The 33-year-old goalkeeper spent the previous season sidelined after his contract with United expired.
In recent months, De Gea has shared training videos, including footage taken at National League club Altrincham, which is near his home in north-west England. His latest post, dated June 25, featured the phrase “ready to rock.”
Despite widespread speculation surrounding his next move, including potential interest from Major League Soccer in the United States, no official announcement has been made regarding his next club. Sources indicate that no agreement has yet been reached with Fiorentina.
During his 13-year tenure at Manchester United, De Gea made 545 appearances and was a key member of the squad that secured the Premier League title in the 2012-13 season. His honors also include two League Cups, one FA Cup, and the Europa League.
Fiorentina, a Serie A club, is owned by Rocco Commisso, an outspoken businessman who was born in Italy but relocated to the USA as a child. The club last celebrated a major trophy victory in 2001 with the Coppa Italia. Recently, they have been runners-up in the last two UEFA Conference League finals and are preparing for the play-off round of the same competition this season.
