Shohei Ohtani moved closer to joining Major League Baseball’s 50-50 club on Tuesday night, hitting his 48th home run of the season.
The home run occurred during the Los Angeles Dodgers’ game against the Miami Marlins, with the Dodgers trailing 4–0 in the top of the third inning. On a 1-1 count, Marlins pitcher Darren McCaughan threw an 82 mph sweeper, which Ohtani hit for a 402-foot home run into the upper deck at LoanDepot Park. The ball left his bat at 105.3 mph.
Ohtani’s powerful shot provided a brief moment of admiration from the batter’s box, as the ball soared out to right field.
This home run brings Ohtani’s season totals to 48 home runs and 48 stolen bases. With 12 games remaining, the possibility of Ohtani reaching the 50-50 milestone remains high.
