Hungary's Unbeaten Streak Snapped by Republic of Ireland - Seasports

Hungary’s national football team, led by coach Marco Rossi, faced an unexpected setback as their impressive 15-match unbeaten streak came to an end with a 2-1 defeat against the Republic of Ireland. This defeat occurred as Hungary prepared for their upcoming Euro 2024 finals clash against Scotland.

The game’s opening goal came in the 35th minute, courtesy of Adam Idah, who capitalized on a cross from Will Smallbone to find the net for Ireland. Despite Hungary’s efforts, they conceded a goal just five minutes later when Dominik Szoboszlai’s shot was deflected, leading to Adam Lang’s goal.

In the dying moments of stoppage time, Tottenham Hotspur’s Troy Parrott sealed victory for Ireland with a breakaway goal, clinching the win against the run of play.

Coach Rossi expressed his disappointment, stating, “We were not satisfied even with the draw in minute 91.” He acknowledged his team’s missed opportunities and highlighted Ireland’s efficiency in converting chances.

Rossi also addressed Hungary’s current phase of development, emphasizing, “Despite the fact that we were coming from 14 matches without defeat, we are not England or Germany. Like I have mentioned several times, we are in a process, we are growing up.”

Hungary faced challenges with player availability for the match in Dublin. Defender Attila Fiola and midfielder Krisztofer Horvath were dealing with minor injuries, while Bendegúz Bolla and Dániel Gazdag joined the squad late due to club commitments.

The defeat serves as a reality check for Hungary as they continue their preparations for the Euro 2024 finals.
