Cavendish's Final Race Set to Take Place in Singapore - Seasports

Mark Cavendish’s last professional race will be the two-day Tour de France Criterium in Singapore, scheduled for November 9-10.

The 39-year-old, known as the ‘Manx Missile,’ has not competed since setting a new record for Tour de France stage wins with his 35th victory in July.

Cavendish had previously confirmed he would not participate in another Tour de France after receiving his knighthood at Windsor Castle earlier this month. However, he remains committed to finishing his 2024 race schedule.

According to race organizers in Singapore, this event will be Cavendish’s final race of the year, marking the end of his illustrious career.

Since starting his professional career in 2005, Cavendish, from the Isle of Man, has won 165 races, including the 2011 world road title. He also earned a silver medal in the Olympic omnium at the 2016 Rio Games.

Originally set to retire after the 2023 season, Cavendish delayed his retirement by a year following a crash that ended his race at the 2023 Tour de France.

Having held the record for the most Tour stage wins alongside cycling legend Eddy Merckx since 2021, Cavendish surpassed Merckx’s record with his victory in Saint Vulbas in July.
