The Dallas Mavericks are eyeing USC guard Bronny James with the 58th and final pick in June’s draft, sources familiar with the team’s plans told NBA insider Marc Stein.
However, Mavericks officials believe it’s unlikely that the son of Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James will still be available at that stage.
According to Stein, James is projected to be chosen earlier in the second round. Dallas holds the last pick at No. 58 after the Philadelphia 76ers and Phoenix Suns forfeited their second-round selections due to tampering violations.
James, 19, is not expected to participate in additional pre-draft workouts after meeting with the Lakers and Suns. The Lakers own picks Nos. 17 and 55, while the Suns will select at No. 22.
During his single season at USC, James appeared in 25 games, averaging 4.8 points and 2.1 assists. He shot 36.5% from the field and 26.7% from three-point range.
The first round of the NBA draft is scheduled for June 26, with the second round following on the subsequent day.
