The Dallas Mavericks are trading veteran wing Tim Hardaway Jr. to the Detroit Pistons in exchange for guard Quentin Grimes, sources informed ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

As part of the deal, Dallas will also send a 2025 second-round pick and two 2028 second-round picks to Detroit.

This trade allows the Mavericks to clear approximately $12 million in salary and acquire a young player aiming for a comeback season.

According to ESPN’s Bobby Marks, this transaction places the Mavericks about $15.7 million below the first tax apron.

During the regular season, Hardaway was the Mavericks’ third-leading scorer, averaging 14.4 points across 79 games. However, his defensive struggles limited his role in the 2024 NBA Finals, where head coach Jason Kidd only played him for 47 minutes over the five-game series.

Grimes, a 2021 first-round pick, averaged seven points and two rebounds in 51 games with the New York Knicks and Pistons during the 2023-24 season. While he has shown potential as a shooter and scorer, he recorded career-low shooting percentages from the field and beyond the arc last year.

The Pistons, with this trade, still retain $51.1 million in cap space, as reported by Spotrac’s Keith Smith.
