Tottenham Edge Coventry with Late Goals to Avoid League Cup Exit - Seasports

Tottenham Hotspur secured a 2-1 victory against second-tier Coventry City with two late goals in the League Cup on Wednesday, avoiding an upset that would have seen them exit the competition.

Spurs were on the verge of a third consecutive loss when Brandon Thomas-Asante gave Coventry a deserved lead in the 63rd minute. Coventry, who came close to beating Manchester United in last season’s FA Cup semi-final, were threatening to cause another upset when Thomas-Asante finished off a cross from Norman Bassette.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou, under pressure following a 1-0 defeat to Arsenal in the north London derby on Sunday, faced further criticism from Spurs fans after substituting Lucas Bergvall early in the second half. However, Postecoglou’s side responded with two crucial late goals.

Dejan Kulusevski set up Djed Spence for Tottenham’s equalizer in the 87th minute, with Spence netting his first goal for the club. In the second minute of stoppage time, Rodrigo Bentancur assisted Brennan Johnson, who slotted in the match-winner.

Elsewhere, Brighton & Hove Albion also advanced to the last 16 of the League Cup, defeating Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-2. Carlos Baleba, Simon Adingra, and Ferdi Kadioglu scored for Brighton to secure the win.
