Scheffler's Louisville Court Date Postponed - Seasports

A Kentucky court has postponed the appearance of pro golfer Scottie Scheffler, who faces charges for injuring a police officer and disobeying commands outside Valhalla Golf Club during this year’s PGA Championship.

Scheffler, who was briefly jailed on Friday, was initially scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, two days after finishing in the top ten at the PGA. However, a judge has rescheduled the court date to June 3, as announced in a statement on Monday by Jefferson County Attorney Mike O’Connell.

“Today, over the objection of Jefferson County Attorney Mike O’Connell, the District Judge presiding in the case of Mr. Scheffler granted the defendant’s attorney’s motion to continue Mr. Scheffler’s arraignment from May 21 to June 3 at 9 a.m.,” the statement said. “Our office continues to gather information in the case.”

Scheffler is facing four charges, including felony assault, following injuries sustained by a Louisville police officer during the incident.

The encounter occurred as officers were investigating the death of a tournament volunteer who was struck by a bus outside the golf course. According to an arrest report, Scheffler was driving a credentialed PGA courtesy car when an officer claimed he “refused to comply and accelerated forward, dragging” the officer to the ground. Video footage from the scene showed Scheffler in handcuffs, an unexpected sight for the world’s top male golfer and the recent Masters tournament champion.

Scheffler’s attorney, Steve Romines, has described the incident as a misunderstanding, asserting that Scheffler did not disobey any orders from the officer. A request for comment from Romines on Monday was not immediately returned.

Despite the arrest, Scheffler managed to participate in the second round of the tournament, shooting a 66. However, a 73 on Saturday—his first round over par since last August—dropped him out of contention. He finished with a 65 on Sunday, tying for eighth place.
