Chicago Cubs outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong showcased his remarkable speed during Friday night’s game against the Miami Marlins, completing an inside-the-park home run in just 14 seconds.
In the third inning, Crow-Armstrong led off with a first-pitch fastball hit to deep right field. Marlins right fielder Jesús Sánchez attempted to catch the ball but missed. The ball then hit the warning track, bounced off the wall, and rolled toward center field. As Sánchez relayed the ball back to the infield, Crow-Armstrong dashed around the bases.
By the time the cutoff man received the throw, Crow-Armstrong had already reached third base. He then slid into home plate as the throw from short right field arrived, with catcher Nick Fortes unable to make the tag.

According to MLB.com’s Sarah Langs, Crow-Armstrong completed the trip from home to home in 14.08 seconds. This marks the fastest time for a runner rounding the bases this season and the fastest for a Cubs player since Statcast began tracking player movements in 2015.
Crow-Armstrong’s sprint was the third-fastest recorded in MLB history since Statcast’s inception. Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton holds the record for the fastest time, rounding the bases in 13.85 seconds on August 18, 2017. Buxton also outran Crow-Armstrong on October 2, 2016, with a time of 14.05 seconds.
While setting up a race among players might be challenging, it would be an intriguing event for MLB All-Star Weekend.
