Scherzer, deGrom Declared Ready to Rejoin Rangers' Rotation - Seasports

Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer, both winners of multiple Cy Young Awards, are set to rejoin the Texas Rangers’ starting rotation following their rehab assignments, according to manager Bruce Bochy on Sunday.

Bochy confirmed that deGrom, a two-time Cy Young Award winner, and Scherzer are prepared to return to the mound. “He’s ready to start here,” Bochy said about deGrom. “Same with Max. Both had great outings, terrific outings.”

The exact dates for their return are still under discussion, but there is a possibility that deGrom might pitch on Friday during the second of four games against Seattle. “We’ll have that down here in a couple days for sure,” Bochy added.

DeGrom has not played in a major league game since April 28, 2023, when he was removed from his sixth start with the Rangers and underwent elbow surgery. He pitched 49 pitches for Double-A Frisco on Saturday, focusing mainly on off-speed pitches. “I’m really excited to be back out there,” deGrom said. “It’s the next step — big league games, big league hitters.”

Scherzer, who has been dealing with right shoulder fatigue and a nerve issue, threw 59 pitches for Triple-A Round Rock at Las Vegas on Saturday. He pitched four scoreless innings and struck out eight of the 14 batters he faced. Scherzer, who last pitched in a major league game on July 30, is currently 2-4 with a 3.89 ERA over 39 1/3 innings in eight starts.
