Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani Set to Lead Off as Starting Lineup Announced for Game 3 vs. Yankees - Seasports

Shohei Ohtani is set to play in Game 3 of the World Series on Monday, following a shoulder injury sustained during the Los Angeles Dodgers’ victory over the New York Yankees in Game 2.

Ohtani, who was injured while attempting to steal second base in the seventh inning of Saturday’s 4-2 win, is listed as the leadoff hitter for the Dodgers in the upcoming contest in the Bronx.

The injury occurred when Ohtani’s left arm was struck directly as he slid into second base. He remained on the ground in pain and was ultimately called out. After the game, Ohtani left the stadium shortly after it concluded.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has provided positive updates regarding Ohtani’s condition. On Sunday, he stated that Ohtani was “feeling good” and “in a great spot.” Roberts noted, “I think that he’s obviously very well aware of himself and his body, so if he feels good enough to go, I see no reason why he wouldn’t be in there.”

This season, Ohtani made MLB history by becoming the first player to achieve a 50-50 season, finishing the regular season with 59 stolen bases on 63 attempts. However, he has struggled with stolen base attempts during the postseason, failing on two occasions so far.

As the Dodgers enter Monday’s Game 3 with a 2-0 series lead over the Yankees, Ohtani has recorded one hit and scored a run in their Game 1 victory. He did not secure a hit in Saturday’s game but was walked in the seventh inning, leading to his injury.

The Dodgers are seeking their second World Series title since 2020. Ohtani is participating in his first postseason this fall after missing the playoffs in his first six seasons with the Los Angeles Angels.
