Giants' Daboll: Benching Jones 'Not in My Mind' Despite Rough Week 1 - Seasports

New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll took responsibility for the team’s 28-6 defeat against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday and stated that he has no plans to bench quarterback Daniel Jones despite ongoing struggles.

Daboll addressed the media postgame, saying, “We’re going to evaluate everything. That’s not in my mind,” when questioned about the possibility of a quarterback change, according to Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports. He added, “Overall, we have to do a better job, and that starts with me,” as reported by SNY.

In the game, the Giants were restricted to 240 total yards and 14 first downs and committed two turnovers. Jones, who signed a four-year, $160 million extension in May 2023, ended the game with 22 completions on 42 attempts for 186 yards, with no touchdowns and two interceptions, including a pick-six.

Daboll further emphasized, “Put it all on me,” regarding the team’s performance, according to Pat Leonard of the NY Daily News Sports. Fans at MetLife Stadium voiced their frustration with boos in the second half.

Jones acknowledged the fans’ expectations, stating, “It’s our job to give them something to cheer about and to play well, to execute, and we take that seriously,” as reported by Vacchiano. “They expect us to play well. We expect to play well. We’ve gotta do that.”

Giants All-Pro defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence expressed his disapproval of the boos, saying, “I don’t respect that, honestly.”

The Giants will face the Washington Commanders in Week 2.
