Derek Carr to Miss Multiple Games with Oblique Injury - Seasports

New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr is expected to miss several games due to an oblique injury sustained during Monday’s matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs, according to NFL Network reporters Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport.

Carr, a four-time Pro Bowler, exited the game in the fourth quarter after absorbing a hard hit. Prior to his exit, Carr reached a significant milestone, becoming the 25th player in NFL history to surpass 40,000 career passing yards. He completed 18 of 28 passes for 165 yards, throwing two touchdowns and one interception. Following his departure, rookie quarterback Jake Haener stepped in, throwing for 17 yards and rushing for an additional 11 yards.

Per Garafolo and Rapoport, Carr is not expected to play in Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers or in the Week 7 game against the Denver Broncos.

The Saints are looking to rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler as a potential starter in Carr’s absence. Rattler, a 2024 fifth-round draft pick, is listed as a second-team quarterback alongside Haener on the team’s depth chart.

Monday’s 26-13 loss to the Chiefs marks the Saints’ third straight defeat, bringing their record to 2-3 after starting the 2024 season with back-to-back wins over the Carolina Panthers and Dallas Cowboys. The team had averaged 45.5 points in those early victories but has since struggled to maintain its offensive production.

Through the first five games of the season, Carr has totaled 989 passing yards, eight touchdowns, and four interceptions while maintaining a 70.3% completion rate.
